Our Mission

To be the champions of all youth in our community, on and off the ice, through the power of hockey.

Our Pillars

  1. Youth Hockey: We foster the growth, accessibility, and sustainability of youth hockey in the tri-state area with the goal of sharing the game we love.
  2. Wellness: We support health, fitness and awareness initiatives that assist the overall physical and mental wellness of our youth.
  3. Education: We provide opportunities for all children to have access to premier learning tools and initiatives to ensure excellence in education.
  4. Community: We impact our city and region through programming, investments and partnerships that create a strong community and secure future for children and families.

How We Choose

Groups wishing to apply for any level of the 50/50 Raffle Grant should adhere to the following criteria to be considered:

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation makes grants to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the  Internal Revenue Code. They must be able to supply an EIN number for verification.
  • Must use the funds to support a program or project key to the organization.
  • The focus of the organization/project must fit into one of the pillars of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation:
  1. Youth Hockey: Applicant's program directly contributes, supports or otherwise ties in directly with the growth, accessibility, and sustainability of the sport of hockey in the tri-state area. This includes organizations that focus on conventional hockey, as well as special needs hockey programs. Exception- high school or school-based hockey programs.
  2. Wellness: Applicant's program pertains to health, fitness and awareness initiatives that assist the overall physical and mental wellness of our youth.
  3. Education: Applicant's program directly provides opportunities for all children to have access to premier learning tools and initiatives to ensure excellence in education. After-school programs, STEAM/STEM programs, museums, and other groups are included. Exception - high schools and colleges seeking funds for programs, student organizations, field trips, etc.
  4. Community: Applicant's program directly impacts our city and region through programming, investments and partnerships that creates a strong community and secure future for children and families.

Exclusions

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation does not support the following:

  • Non tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations
  • Individuals
  • Fundraising events, sponsorships
  • Endowment campaigns
  • Organizations that advocate religious beliefs or restrict participation on the basis of religion
  • Multi-year pledge requests
  • Organizations outside of the tri-state area (PA, OH, WV)
  • Staff salaries, travel expenses or political campaigns
  • Recreational group outings or trips
  • General operating costs for high school or recreational sports teams
